Police man goes viral after rejecting a traffic violator’s bribe

For the longest time, traffic is one of the biggest problems in the country that people from all classes face. It is the reason why people wake up  before sunrise, only to get to the office a few minutes before their shift at work starts. This turns a supposed 30-minute travel time from Makati City to Quezon City into a 4-hour marathon. More importantly, it blows people’s mind’s when it starts to look like flying to a nearby Asian country may at times be even faster than getting anywhere by passing through EDSA. Because of this, certain rules were made with the intention of lessening the ever growing epidemic. Despite this, a lot of people still disobey these and even get away with it. What they fail to notice is that what they do just adds up to the problem even more.

A recent Facebook post has been going viral because of an incident that happened on the road. In Makati, a city known for having strict traffic rules, a bus was caught violating one of them. Because of this, it was pulled over by some police men. Thinking that it was a hassle, the bus’ conductor did something to get away from the situation.

He then acted as the negotiator and went down to talk to the men in blue. Later on, officer Lucas Lee went inside the bus to talk to the driver. Apparently, the conductor’s way of “negotiating” was slipping in some money inside the license of the driver as a form of bribery.

Because of this, the conductor ended up in shackles as the veteran police officer talked to the bus driver and gave him his violation ticket. Later on, said briber was charged for “Corruption of public officials.”

A lot of netizens commended the officer for his honest act. In the country, it is a common thing, especially in these situations, to get bribed. Violators always prefer the easy way out. For this instance, the officials simply did not let this get in the way of their duty.

No one can really pin point an exact unified answer when asked “What is the main cause of traffic in the Philippines?”. On the other hand, I think we could all agree that the solution starts not with the rules but with how people act on the road.

Let us all commend the police officers present in the viral post for standing up and doing what is right.
