WATCH: Babaeng Nag-Alok Ng Gayuma Kapalit Ang Higit 60-Libong Piso, Arestado!

It is surprising that in this age and time, many Filipinos still believe in the power of love potions popularly known as “gayuma”. This is a special potion made in order for someone to get attracted or even fall in love with one person.

Just when we thought that this “gayuma” plot stories only happen in television series and movies, just recently, a woman was arrested after extorting money in exchange of helping a girl acquire a love potion that will make her ex-boyfriend fall in love with her once again.

According to the victim only identified as May, she met the suspect Jane Mendoza through social media who offered to recommend her to a friend who knows how to do a love potion.

“Nag-message siya sa ‘kin na marunong daw siya. Tapos mga ilang days na, humihingi na siya ng pera tapos parang sabi niya, ‘In seven days, puwede na kayong magkaayos ng boyfriend mo,'” May said.

For the past few months, May has been sending a total of P66,000 to Jane and even visited her house in Pangasinan but she never met Jane’s friend whom she said knows how to do love potion.

May then suspect that Jane is probably a fraud so she decided to stop sending her money, but the latter threatened to bewitch her if she will not continue sending money.

“Kaya daw niyang bigyan ako ng sakit at hindi makalakad, tapos kaya daw niyang patayin yung boyfriend ko saka ako,” May added.

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) immediately conducted an entrapment operation to arrest Jane.

Further investigation shows that Jane does not have any friend who knows how to create a “gayuma”.

Because of this, NCRPO director Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar reminded the public to be vigilant in trusting people especially the ones they just met through social media.

“Maging maingat tayo, huwag tayo magpadala ng emosyon lang. Pag-isipan natin saka pag-ingatan natin ang paggamit ng social media,” Eleazar said.

Meanwhile, the suspect will face multiple charges in relation to robbery extortion, swindling, and estafa.
