Cebu Siblings In Poor Condition After Allegedly Cursed By Their Own Grandmother
Living in the Philippines, despite being in the 21st century, a lot of people still believes in the supernatural like curse, folklores, and other mythical and mystical beings that exist all around us.
Most especially in our rural areas and barrios, where technology and development is still slow. A lot of people still consult quack doctors who use herbs, medicinal plants, and unorthodox modes of healing to restore a person’s health should he or she offend some unworldly beings.
Being scientific is still considered an excess and an activity that are only for the rich and privileged people. Hospitals are still few and access to good health care is still scarce.
But are curses really true? Do witches and warlocks exist? Is there any empirical data to prove that truthfulness and validity of these claims?
A story in Carcar, Cebu recently gained nationwide attention. The Sunday magazine show, Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho featured the story of an alleged case of cursing.
Meet Ramson Canada, a man who suffers a bone ailment allegedly caused by a curse vested by his own grandmother. According to Ramson’s mother, her mother-in-law was intently against her relationship with her son that she never really accepted her.
Her mother in law cursed Susan she was pregnant with Ramson. She told the pregnant woman that she’ll never be happy. To make things worse, even her sons and daughters would never be happy and would experience hardship.
When Ramson was born, everybody thought that he was normal. Until a few years went by and suddenly his bone defect became more noticeable. He is now a grown-up but his deformities are very much apparent. His limbs and arms are almost stick like and he can’t even move freely inside the house.
According to his mother, this was the realization of the curse that his grandmother said to them.
Their belief was even intensified when Ramson’s other brothers and sisters lost their lives due to unexplained ailments. They seem to have accepted his fate when all of a sudden her younger sister started experiencing the same symptoms.
Ramson’s condition turn from bad to worse as the days goes by. He even has a hard time eating, breathing, and swallowing. Both her mother and sister take turns in providing care to the disabled siblings. Susan makes a living as a sandal vendor in a nearby market.
Because of their meager life, the family largely depends on their religion to understand and survive day by day. His bizarre case eventually caught the attention of the program Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho. They visited the household and have the siblings checked by a health professional.
What they originally thought as a curse turned out to be a hereditary ailment the sibling might have inherited from their parents genes. Treatment approach is more of relieving the symptoms and supportive care aimed to improve the quality of life.
KMJS provided help by giving the Ramson’s family a sari-sari store business. This should allow her mother to earn and at the same time look after them. The crew also gave the siblings wheelchair for them to use.
They even provided bed mattress for the two to ease their back pains and help them easily fall asleep. Ramson with tears on his eyes expressed his out most gratitude to the help they just received.
